Navy Cape

When my mother bought this cape for me a few weeks ago, it instantly became one of my favorite pieces of winter apparel.  It's surprisingly warm with such a charming look and feel.  And yes, I  actually paired it with pants ...rare!  The only complaint I seem to have is that I can only pair it with certain handbags, because the straps slide right off my shoulder.  Otherwise, this cape is everything!

Study Habbits

Studying is  super important to me.  Sometimes I get too distracted when I attempt to study in my apartment, and going to the library just gets library just gets old.  One of my favorite places to go study is the Chicago Cultural Center.  I love how spacious this particular room is.  The gorgeous marble ceiling is really the only distraction here!  There are several coffee shops near by, so whenever I need a break I pop right out to the Starbucks down the street.  Not to mention the Cultural Center is a block away from state street, so I can also sneak in some shopping after my studying!

I'll be sharing more of my favorite study spots with you soon!

Shelby Steiner Autumn/Winter 2013

Up-and-coming designer Shelby Steiner launched the lookbook for new Autumn/Winter 2013 collection.  Shelby's new collection, The Diamond, was inspired by the obsession with the stone.  The pocket details represent the smuggling of conflict diamonds.  The custom plaid overlay  reinforces the initial inspiration of conflict diamonds.  Typically I'm not one for maxi skirts. But the gold skirt that the model, Lauren, is wearing is one of my favorite pieces of the collection!

I had the opportunity to meet Shelby this past January and she's such a lovely girl! What draws me to her pieces the most is her inspiration of worldly and environmental issues. She is currently one of six designers in residence at the Chicago Fashion Incubator at Macy's on State Street.  Shelby is also an alumni of my school, Columbia College Chicago.  The Diamond collection is absolutely phenomenal and I'm anxious to see what she has for us next!

A Day In Daisies

Its been a week since my last post, but it has been quite the busy week.  I've had midterms for school...studying was not too awful though. On a lighter note I was promoted at Urban Outfitters this week which I am thrilled about. This week I also was accepted to be an Intern at Studio H. I'm nervous, but so grateful for this opportunity and am excited to begin Monday morning!

I've completely fallen in love with this Daisy dress! I was hesitant about this purchase because it initially seems like such a summer dress.  However, with the proper pairing it's perfect for winter. I love the contrast of chiffon against the light wash denim shirt.  Most certainly one of my favorite outfits.

Roam Around My Room

With my love of pastels, of course they were the main influence behind the decor of my bedroom.  My room is filled with things that make me happy and inspire me.  Most of the trinkets are things I have found over the years in vintage shops.  Having a bright clean room definitely helps motivate me to study and keeps me away from distractions.  My kitten, Charlie, shares my room with me of course.   I keep my room bright and clean for him as well...he loves lounging around in the sun. Taking a peak into my room definitely re-assures to anyone my love of florals!

I hope you have a happy Friday and a lovely weekend!

A Hint of Spring

Lately we've been getting teases of spring in Chicago.  Although it's still been a bit chilly, you can't ignore all the beautiful sun we've been getting.  So naturally I pulled out one of my favorite spring dresses, but added some winter apparel to make it seasonally appropriate.  I'm a sucker for peter pan collars, and combined with lace...everything I need in a dress.  The peter pan collar is my absolute favorite detail of this outfit.  This vintage blazer has got to be one of my favorite pieces that I've thrifted.  But enough teases already, bring on the spring weather so I can lose these tights!

Velvet Light

Now that the Holiday's are over, is wearing velvet now just overkill? I think not, and I absolutely adore it!  Although, I am hesitant about burgundy and green velvets during this time of year. On the other hand I do think this MINK PINK dress makes wearing velvet now perfectly acceptable.  I've fallen completely in love with this dress.  Aside from the print and the velvet I love how full the skirt is, it's perfect for twirling! I paired it with a cream cable knit sweater, hat, and my favorite boots to achieve a more causal look.  A cute yet cozy look for these harsh winter days!
